Tournament Results: Columbus Regionals
**I'm so sorry that this is so late being posted! I had mistakenly saved it as a draft instead of posting it following Regionals!
JVBC ended its season playing in the Regional tournament in Columbus. The girls had a great day and a great season!
We started out the day being ranked 16 out of 16 in our bracket; we knew that this would be tough to compete in!
Our first match in pool play was against Mountain Rage: Raging Thunder. This team was very good and our girls still needed to wake up a bit! They played fairly well against a good team but lost in 2 games.
We then played Toledo VBC. This team was also very good and we played great against them! We had the fewest missed serves in a match of the entire season this match! We only missed 3 (and they weren't all the first serve)! We still lost in 2 but were close: 17-25 and 23-25.
Our third match of pool play was against Matchpoint DC. We came out strong and lost the first game 23-25. Matchpoint was playing well and we lost a bit of steam in the 2nd game causing us to also lose the match.
Our pool play record put us in the Chromium bracket for tournament play. In our break from playing, we saw our former player Amanda (from our 2nd team ever!)! It was so nice to see her! We were also able to watch other Jackson girls Naudia (Impact) and Emily (Club Extreme) play for a bit.
We started tournament play by facing Buckeye. We were a bit concerned over how our team would play with an hours long break between matches. We needn't be concerned; the girls came out strong! They looked great and played one of our best matches of the season! We won 25-18 and 25-12!
This put us in the Chromium semi-finals and we faced our "neighbor", Elite and got to play against our friends Sophia and Alana again! We had lost a close match with this team at the Elite tournament and our girls went out to win this one! These two teams are very evenly matched and it showed during play! JVBC put the heat on in the first game, winning 25-13. The second game Elite came on strong and pulled out the win 22-25. Both teams looked to be getting tired in the third game and it could have gone either way! Luckily for us, JVBC came out on top, winning 15-12.
This win put us in the Chromium championship match! We played Elite (a different Elite). It was very evident by this point that both teams were tired from a long day but both groups of girls played hard! We had another great match of serving, only missing 5 in 3 games! We won the first game 25-23 and then almost won the second game, barely losing 24-26. The third game was back and forth almost the whole time! Our girls played hard and won 15-13!
We won the Chromium bracket and received gold medals! This is only the second time in JVBC history that we've come away with a gold medal and this is the highest bracket we'd ever done that in! This team had a great season and we are so proud of them (and can't wait to see them in 7th grade in the fall!). Congratulations girls!

Upcoming Tournament: Columbus Regionals
JVBC will be playing in its last tournament, the regional tournament in Columbus, this Saturday! Here is the information for the tournament:
Greater Columbus Convention Center
400 North High Street
Columbus, OH 43215
Convention Center doors open at 7:00 AM, and Match 1 begins at 8:30 AM. Ref or warm-up at 8:10. We may be sitting first match, but it is not certain.
It is extremely crowded there, and can take some time to park, get into the facility, and find our team's camp spot in the Convention Center hallway. Allow plenty of extra time at arrival.
Text Mrs. Dannug when you get there! It will be very difficult to find the coaches and teammates due to the large crowds. If you find other teammates, stay together. We will be near the north end of the Convention Center, in one of the aisles across from Exhibit Halls D, E, or F.
Wear purple jerseys unless you are the libero, then wear yellow. Bring both jerseys! Bring money for food and souvenirs (shirts, etc.). Plenty of food and merchandise are available for purchase, but you should still bring snacks and water (just no coolers).
Parents absolutely need a chair, and probably a book or other activity for idle time. Also, parents may want to bring a sweater, sweatshirt, or jacket, as it often seems to be cold in the Exhibit Hall.
Aspirin may also be in order, as the constant whistles can bring on headaches (not to mention our team's play).
There will be postings at the Convention Center indicating our court and schedule. Parents should position their chairs at the courts we are playing on as early as possible. Try to put your chairs in a group so it is easier for the girls and coaches to find you after the match.
During lunch break, there are food stands near the Exhibit Hall, and there is a food court to the south of the Exhibit Hall that has a larger variety, but is a bit of a walk. Lines for food can be long so expect that it will take some time to get your food.
I recommend parents buy food before our break time if possible, particularly if we are refing before the break. This will give the girls the most time possible to eat during the break, instead of spending much of the break period waiting in a food line.
Buy your souvenirs early in the day as some items and sizes will sell out.
Remember good sportsmanship!
It is a long day, and the refs can easily lose focus and make mistakes. Be courteous and treat the refs pleasantly. Be a positive influence on our team! The parents should be cheering or quiet. Have fun and keep a positive attitude to try and enjoy the day, no matter how it goes!
Friday Night Embassy Suites
The coaches will be staying Friday night at the Embassy Suites Airport, 2886 Airport Drive, Columbus, OH 43219. We hope to see you there. We plan to get there by 6:30 PM. If you don't see us, give us a text, we'd like to meet up with you. We can look for you in the social area on the first floor of the hotel.

Tournament Results: Wooster MS
JVBC played in its 4th tournament at Wooster's Edgewood Middle School on Saturday. The girls continued to play well and improve on their skills! They seemed especially good at knowing and switching their positions this tournament!
They started off the day playing Club Extreme, who they played at the Massillon Rec Center. Club Extreme had improved a lot and proved to be a tough opponent! Our Jackson girls managed to pull out the win though, 25-21 and 25-16.
Our second match was against Cleveland Volleyball Club. This team was very good and our girls played well against them, staying right with them throughout the match. They ended up losing 18-25 and 17-25.
Our third match was against Impact. This team had 2 boys on it (in 12U they are allowed to play) - the first team we saw taking advantage of this rule this year! This match also had possibly the most exciting 5 minutes of volleyball JVBC has ever had! It started at the end of the first game, when Kaylee "dunked/tipped" the ball over on a very tall boy, #11. This was possibly illegal but the play was very exciting and wasn't called! This led to the girls winning the first game 25-22. Early in the next match, Kaylee had an awesome block against #11. The very next play was a great block by #11 against a hard hit by Kaylee. The gym erupted in to cheers after all of this! JVBC ended up losing the second game and came back into it and almost pulled out the win in the third game. They lost 13-15.
In the girls' 4th match, they played Ohio Xtreme. They'd seen another Xtreme team at our first tournament but had not yet played this one. The girls played great! They won 25-18 and 25-11.
This brought us to the championship of the Silver Bracket! In this match the girls played Northshore. They played ok this match but seemed a little tired and just couldn't quite put plays together. They lost 18-25 and 19-25.
The day was a good one, although we missed Amanda, who missed this tournament. A congratulations also goes out to Marley and Kaylee who were certified in scorebook and second refereeing respectively. This was quite impressive!
Congratulations on a great day girls! Also, enjoy the week off - there's no practice on Tuesday!

Upcoming Tournament: Wooster MS
JVBC will be playing in its 4th tournament this Saturday, April 8 at Wooster's Edgewood Middle School.
Here is the information for the tournament:
Wooster Edgewood Middle School
2695 Graustark Path
Wooster, OH 44691
Please be there by 7:45. The first tournament match will start promptly at 8:30. We may need to start warm-ups or ref tasks at 8:10. Expect to be there until around 4:00, but we may be done a little earlier or later.
It takes approximately 45 minutes to get there from JMMS. Take 30W, take 3/83N, exit at Cleveland/3, turn left, right on Winkler, left on Graustark Path.
Chairs may be needed, as one gym has bleachers and the other does not. Bring chairs in case we play in the gym without bleachers. They have a concession stand. No outside coolers are permitted in the facility.
Early seeding shows that we will probably ref, play, sit, play, ref, play. But this could change the morning of the tournament.
Let us know if you have any questions and we'll see you there!

Tournament Results: Massillon Rec Center
JVBC played in its 3rd tournament yesterday at the Massillon Rec Center. They had a great day!
In addition to our families, we had some friends come to watch us for part of the day! These included Nora who came to watch us; she's come multiple times to cheer our team on! Mrs. Moore also stopped by to watch a match!
In our 1st match, we played PCVC (Brittany) whom we'd played at our first tournament at Xtreme Sports. We were still fairly evenly matched with this team but didn't miss as many serves as we did the first time playing them; in fact we did great with our serves this entire day! We won in 2, 25-15 and 25-19!
Our 2nd match was against Club Extreme. We played against our classmate Emily in this match! This team was very similar to PCVC. We had some great strings of serves and some great hustling plays! We won in 2, 25-15 and 25-19.
Our 3rd match was against Club Crush (Orrville). We also played this good team at our Xtreme tournament during the tournament play. In that match, we took them to 3 but lost steam in the 3rd game. This time, we were ready for them! We won the first game in exciting fashion 25-21 (and only missed 1 serve!)! They were back and ready and ended up beating us 25-27. We had match point several times but just couldn't pull it off. We started off behind in the third game but came back to tie it up. But again, couldn't pull out the win; we lost 15-17! Even with losing to this team, we played super well against them, probably the best of the season! It was really exciting and we are proud that our girls did so well against them! This put us in 2nd place in our pool, same as last weekend!
We played Club Crush (Becker) in the semi-finals match. This team was very good and seemed to have no trouble beating anyone in the tournament, including us unfortunately. We were disappointed with how we played against them while in the match and lost in 2. However, once we started reffing the championship match (Club Crush Becker against Club Crush Orrville), we saw just how good they were! The Club Crush Orrville team that was so good that we lost to in 3 actually scored less points against Club Crush Becker than we did! This team was just very good and maybe is playing more at an American level than a Regional level. Watching this match made us feel better about our play against them in the semi-finals!
Overall this day was very exciting! We made the Gold Bracket for the third time in a row at our tournaments! And we got medals for coming in 3rd in the entire tournament! We also reffed a record 4 times so our girls are on their way to becoming experts! Here is a picture of us with our 3rd place medals:
Standing: Coach Dannug, Nora, Liv, Kaylee, Emma, Marley, Sam, Kara, Coach Hubbard
Kneeling: Marina, Amanda, Emmilee

Tournament Results: Elite Sports
JVBC played in its second tournament today at Elite Sports Ohio.
Unfortunately, a team had to drop out somewhat last minute and we played in a 3 team pool in pool play. That means that we played matches that were best out of 5 instead of best out of 3 during the morning.
We started out playing Steel Valley. Our girls came out strong with some great serves! Marina, Emma, Kaylee, and Kara all had long streaks of serves without missing! The girls won 25-6, 25-12, and 25-9!
Next we played Pittsburgh Elite, who looked very good! We didn't quite have it during this match. The girls weren't stringing off serves as much and seemed a bit confused while playing. We lost in 3.
Next we had a break and switched up our jerseys to get some momentum back! Also, Sam and Emma got certified as scorekeeper and second referee during our ref session! They did great! We were also really excited to see former JVBC players Stephanie (about to graduate high school) and Laura (about to graduate college) at the tournament!
We came in 2nd in our pool so we were placed into the Gold bracket. We played in the quarterfinal against Elite. We were excited to play them because Sophia and Alana, both also from Jackson, are on that team!
The match against Elite was really close and well played. Both teams were so even, it was a real nail biter! We ended up losing 24-26 and 23-25 but we were so happy with how the girls played! They played much better than they did against Pittsburgh Elite and they're really coming along!
Great job today girls!

Tournament Results: Ohio Xtreme
JVBC played in its first tournament last Saturday and had a great outing!
The girls were a bit nervous at the beginning of the day but came into their own as the day went on.
We began the day by playing Pittsburgh Elite White. We were fairly even with this team! The girls missed quite a few serves this match but did a lot of great things! We ended up losing 18-25 and 20-25.
The next match was against PCVC Brittany. The girls continued to miss a lot serves but luckily the PCVC team did too! We had lots of great plays and started to look more confident! The girls won 25-20 and 25-18!
The third match of pool play was against Ohio Xtreme Black. This team was very good (and actually ended up winning the entire tournament later in the day!)! The girls struggled a lot against Xtreme's tough serves and ended up making some mistakes due to frustration. We lost in two sets.
We were seeded 3rd in our pool and after comparing records in pool play, were placed as the 1st 3rd place team. We faced Club Crush Orrville in the first round of the tournament. This team had some great servers! Our team played great, among the best of the day! The girls finally had their serves under control and we had some long volleys with this team! We lost the first match 19-25 but came back and won the second 25-16! This took us to a 3rd set. Unfortunately, we got caught up in a few good serves and lost this 3rd set. We played great against Crush and later found out that they had come in second in the tournament!
We ended up tying for 5th place (out of 12), which is great for our first tournament of the season!
Great job girls!
